Thanks for visiting a small selection of my favorite landscape photographs. I share a passion for chasing waterfalls, moons and suns among my Nature Photographs. I shoot in a number of San Francisco Bay Area locations including Yosemite. Attempting to capture the light to create the moment when I was there is what I hope to accomplish. Please drop me an email or leave a comment below. Thanks for stopping in! I also have a Facebook Fan located here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Yosemite-and-Bay-Area-Nature-Photography-by-John-Harrison/190152125697

All images are for sale in various matted and framed print sizes. Please see information about purchasing prints in the menu above. All images are also Copyright John Harrison Photography and may NOT be used without express permission.

John Harrison Photography > "Full Moon Rising over Half Dome" The clouds and fog were pretty thick along the ground as we were coming back from a day of shooting. The full moon was rising behind Half Dome and created an ominous glow with the clouds. For the photo techies... I captured this with the Nikon D3S @12,800 ISO, f/8 and 4s and the 14-24 lens that I rented for the last trip. Sure would LOVE to own this camera, but at $5200 for the body and $1800 for the lens, I am going to have to wait a while. Pretty amazing to push something to that ISO! I DID run this through two passes of a noise filter (Noiseware Pro) in Photoshop
John Harrison Photography > "Sunset Symphony in Santa Cruz" I saw the clouds had potential to bring something nice... but it turned out to be even better than I hoped! An amazing sunset unfolded like a symphony playing! It was soft and subtle, had a crescendo with strong orange and blues and then changed to reds and pinks trailing off into rays of light down through the clouds. I will be posting more from this fantastic night - I am just glad I had my camera and tripod ready. Please enjoy!
John Harrison Photography > "Rays Through Redwoods" was captured in Butano State Park near Pescadero, California. It was NOT the golden hour - quite the opposite! I captured this at 2 in the afternoon but with the fog beginning to lift, I noticed the sun streaming through the Redwoods creating those "God Beams" I love to chase! I found this little stream with the redwood bark laying around. I captured this with multiple exposures that I blended together. As with all my favorite images, this is the place I want to be on a Friday afternoon.
John Harrison Photography > "Below Fern Springs" Shot in Yosemite during our Fall Colors photo workshop. Really nice fall colors and flowing water. It was tough to leave (pun intended)!
John Harrison Photography > "Singapore Night Skyline Panorama" Singapore was an amazing place I made it to last year! This is captured from the Marina Bay Sands Casino and Resort. I captured this via a quick stop on the way to the airport! This is a 13 shot panorama that I did use a tripod with which aren't really allowed up there!
John Harrison Photography > Clearing Storm on El Capitan at Sunset. We almost were headed to the bar with cloudy and rainy skies when I was up for the Yosemite Renaissance Gallery reception. I talked my friend into driving through the park "just in case!" Sure enough, one blue spot lead to another and THIS was in front of us! (Michael Frye has a blogpost titled "The One That Got Away") - I am sure lucky that I was there and able to get this one! Maybe my blog-post should be "The One That ALMOST got Away - but didn't!"
John Harrison Photography > "Reflections of El Capitan on the Merced" Along the banks of the Merced (in a section that was flowing slowly) I found El Capitan reflecting in the water. What a fun time shooting last week in Yosemite! Yes, it is possible to find spots without the crowds - you just have to look for them.
John Harrison Photography > "Pigeon Point Lighthouse at Sunset" The Purple and white flowers here with the waves along the shore. The Pigeon Point Lighthouse is basking in late afternoon sun. edit
John Harrison Photography > "Fall Colors in the Eastern Sierra" Is it starting to feel like Fall?! Colors are probably thinking about changing in some parts of the states! This capture is from the Eastern Sierra on the other side of Yosemite National Park near Lee Vining and Lundy Lake. Amazing when the colors start to turn!
John Harrison Photography > "Golden Gate Bridge at Sunset" Captured at Sunset from Alcatraz in San Francisco. Nothing like a warm sunset with the sun going down.
John Harrison Photography > "Lone Cypress at Sunset" Carmel, California
John Harrison Photography > ‎"Poipu Sunset in Kauai" A nice sunset along Shipwreck Beach in Poipu Kauai out in front of the Grand Hyatt. Just a beautiful bay with the sunset coming down over the cliffs in the distance. The clouds just started glowing nicely as the waves were breaking along the shore. You can see the tiki torches in front of the Grand Hyatt - an ABSOLUTELY amazing place if you haven't been there! My wife and I stayed there on our honeymoon years ago and it was great to be able to capture a nice setting. The Grand Hyatt is one of those perfect places in paradise! Even if you can't afford a room there, stop at the bar and have a drink and sit out on the terrace to watch the sunset. You can book your reservations here! http://kauai.hyatt.com/hyatt/hotels/index.jsp?null
John Harrison Photography > "Bean Hollow Sunset" I found a nice quiet beach down at Bean Hollow south of Pescadero and Half Moon Bay for the sunset. Swirls from the surf with the longer exposure and the sun setting on the horizon. You can just hear the surf and waves coming in as you look out towards the horizon and setting sun.
John Harrison Photography > "Cataract Falls in Spring" Marin County, California. This spring the waterfalls were AMAZING! Water was flowing everywhere! Can you hear it flowing?!! I made a trek up to Cataract Falls just north of the Golden Gate bridge. = It is just a couple mile hike (uphill!) along side these flowing falls with lush green moss everywhere! A perfect place for a weekend hike with the dogs and kids (I met lots of folks on the trail!) Highly recommended. You can get directions to find Cataract Falls here: http://www.bahiker.com/northbayhikes/cataractfalls.html (the pictures aren't very good on this site, but you can find it -- it really is beautiful, especially when the falls are flowing!)
