Thanks for visiting a small selection of my favorite landscape photographs. I share a passion for chasing waterfalls, moons and suns among my Nature Photographs. Attempting to capture the light to create the moment when I was there is what I hope to accomplish. Please drop me an email or leave a comment below. Thanks for stopping in!

All images are for sale in various matted and framed print sizes. Please see information about purchasing prints in the menu above. All images are also Copyright John Harrison Photography and may NOT be used without express permission.

jharrison > “Nature’s Firefall” is a rare photograph of Horsetail Falls in Yosemite at Sunset in winter. This is nature’s version of the old man-made Yosemite Fire Fall.During the winter in Yosemite, coming off of El Capitan, there is an almost non-existent waterfall called “Horsetail Falls.” Many maps don’t even have it marked. During the last two weeks in February, IF there is water trickling over the edge, and IF it is clear at sunset (which doesn’t happen too often due to the winter storms) the setting sun will turn this waterfall into a stream of molten fire. The waterfall lights up like molten lava due to the angle of the sun. Inspired by Galen Rowell, many photographers have chased this elusive photo opportunity. John spent two evenings in a foot of snow in the middle of meadow trying to get the shot. The first evening was an absolute bust as it had been clear all day and at sunset the clouds hung over the peak. Luckily he captured his photograph titled “Full Moon over Half Dome”. The next evening everything worked out for this stunning shot.

jharrison > "Rays Through Redwoods" was captured earlier this year in Butano State Park near Pescadero, California. It was NOT the magic hour - quite the opposite! I captured this at 2 in the afternoon but with the fog beginning to lift, I noticed the sun streaming through the Redwoods creating those "God Beams" I love to chase! I found this little stream with the redwood bark laying around and capture multiple exposures that I blended together. As with all my favorite images, this is the place I want to be on a Friday afternoon.

jharrison > The “Lone Surfer at Natural Bridges” was captured on a winter day at Sunset. The waves were strong, and the sunset was beautiful. There was one surfer that I caught dreaming about hitting the waves one last time before the sunlight totally disappeared. This location is a beautiful cove and has endless amounts of places to photograph. In the spring, school children frequent this location on field trips to see the monarch butterflies.

jharrison > "Sunset at Tenaya Lake", Yosemite National Park - Tioga Pass. Just a beautiful sunset at Tenaya Lake. There were no clouds in the sky all day and right at sunset the winds died down to smooth out the lake and a few wisps of clouds came through delivering some brilliant colors.

jharrison > Storm and Sunset over Mono Lake. White caps were brewing on Mono Lake so I shot this with a 4 second exposure to give this mystical feel to it. The storm clouds were still looming and the sunset was peeking through to highlight the tufa in the center. The salt spray from the lake created the snow like ring around the lake. The winds were about 20-30 miles an hour and I had to use my camera bag and body to weight the tripod down so there was no movement during the long exposure. Something a little different from Mono Lake!

jharrison > "Watching Ocean Flows" was captured at sunrise on an outing when I was shooting with Kevin McNeal and Edward Nunez - Kevin and Ed were off playing in the big waves with their waders and I was off finding this perfect setting! The bird sat there perfectly still during the 5 second exposure! The textures in the clouds and blue and purple tones in the rock in the foreground with the water swirling around are what really excited me when I captured this! Like all of my favorite images, this is a place I want to be on a Friday afternoon. Enjoy! John
