"Summer Wildflowers at Sparks Lake", near Mt Bachelor and Bend Oregon. I made 3 trips up to Sparks Lake to scout and check out the Ray Atkeson trail (famous Oregon Landscape Photographer.) The first time was totally socked in with fog and the second was mid-day with the family so you generally call these "scouting trips" Well, I saw this GREAT patch of wildflower out on a island 100 feet across from the shore. I had talked with Marc Adamus who also mentioned that he had spied those as well. So, I headed up for a third trip and brought my waders. I thought it would only be a few feet deep since I could see the bottom - Nope... I had water up to my chest while carrying all my camera gear!! One little slip and my gear was soaked (don't tell my wife this!) I got to the island and found this great patch of flowers just off the very tip of the island. I balanced my tripod precariously on a few rocks and brought out my 10-20mm lens to capture this. It was well worth the effort to wade out to this island an get the shot! I really nice different shot from a pretty famous place.

"Sunset on Half Dome from Glacier Point" Some nice color in the summer sky with clouds above Clouds Rest and Nevada and Vernal Falls. It was uncertain if we were going to get a good sunset as high clouds hid the sun from penetrating through. These last glimpses were at dusk as the sky started to light up. This is one of those places I want to be on a Friday afternoon!

Storm and Sunset over Mono Lake. White caps were brewing on Mono Lake so I shot this with a 4 second exposure to give this mystical feel to it. The storm clouds were still looming and the sunset was peeking through to highlight the tufa in the center. The salt spray from the lake created the snow like ring around the lake. The winds were about 20-30 miles an hour and I had to use my camera bag and body to weight the tripod down so there was no movement during the long exposure. Something a little different from Mono Lake!
3rd place - Pacific Art League
"Bouquet of Color" Tulips at Filoli, Woodside, California. I stumbled upon this grouping of tulips and the bright colors with the blue in the background really caught my attention. I used a wide angle lens to distort the perspective. Printed on a gallery wrap canvas, this just jumps out at you!
Garrapata State Park Calla Lilies.
Award, Palo Alto Camera Club, July 2008. Digital Competition.
We set out to find this hidden spot along the coast North of Big Sur in Garrapata State Park. (Photographers and nature lovers don't share details very often to find this little spot!) We found this little cluster of three perfect Calla Lilies just sitting there. I used my 10-20mm lens to distort and enhance the foreground. This image looks fantastic printed at least 20x30 as a Museum Quality Gallery Wrap. My wife has this in our dining room and admires it everyday. Ahhh.... to be in Big Sur right now. This is one of those places I want to be on a Friday afternoon. Keep Shooting! More images from my portfolio can be seen here -

Pfeiffer State Beach at Sunrise. "Watching Ocean Flows"
Award, Palo Alto Camera Club. May 2008, Digital Monochrome. (this image is the color version obviously!)
I captured this at sunrise on an outing when I was shooting with Kevin McNeal - He was off playing in the big waves with his waders and I was off finding this perfect setting! The bird sat there perfectly still during the 5 second exposure! The textures in the clouds and blue and purple tones in the rock in the foreground with the water swirling around are what really excited me when I captured this! Like all of my favorite images, this is a place I want to be on a Friday afternoon.
