From Yosemite National Park - A selection of images from Yosemite

  • "Full Moon Rising over Half Dome" The clouds and fog were pretty thick along the ground as we were coming back from a day of shooting. The full moon was rising behind Half Dome and created an ominous glow with the clouds. For the photo techies... I captured this with the Nikon D3S @12,800 ISO, f/8 and 4s and the 14-24 lens that I rented for the last trip. Sure would LOVE to own this camera, but at $5200 for the body and $1800 for the lens, I am going to have to wait a while. Pretty amazing to push something to that ISO! I DID run this through two passes of a noise filter (Noiseware Pro) in Photoshop
  • Star Trails over Yosemite Falls. Yosemite National Park. I shot this in January during my Aperture Nature Photography contest winning trip at about 4am in the Ahwahnee meadow standing in about 2 feet of snow. This is about a 10 minute exposure. The light below is from the buildings and cabins below. Standing in all that snow my feet were COLD!!   • Star Trails over Yosemite Falls in Winter. I was one of the only persons in Yosemite Valley when I shot this. This is a 40 minute exposure. A ranger finally stopped by to ask what I was doing -- I replied, "Taking pictures of course!"
  • "Stars on the Beach" It was a nice clear weekend down along the Northern California coastline this past weekend that enabled me to capture the stars above the beach at Pajaro Dunes Resort where we stayed with friends over the Memorial Day weekend. It was nice to hav a quiet house on the beach and just hearing the waves crashing with the stars above. I thought I would try this as a vertical panorama or vertiscape. The stars just go on forever!   • Stars above Glacier Point and Half Dome. The light you see just below the top of Half Dome and a few spots of the left hand side of the picture are of lanterns of the climbers on peaks camping out on the face of the cliffs. This is a 12 minute exposure on a very clear night.
  • More star trails over Half Dome. The lights you see below the top of half dome and below are from climbers lanterns. Just another fun night in the dark from Glacier Point.
